Kids and young adults of the 1970s are remembering “Welcome Back Kotter” star Robert Hegyes, who died from an apparent heart attack on Thursday. The actor played Jewish Puerto Rican student Juan Epstein in the popular sit-com. He was 60 years old.

Fans of “Welcome Back Kotter” are fondly posting recollections of Hegyes’ character exclaiming, “Hey, Mr. Kotter, I got a note!” and mouthing the words of the note allegedly from him mom, leading his classmates (aka the Sweathogs) to believe that he had written it himself.
