This ‘Grown-Up’ Counting Song Takes a Weird, Dark Turn (VIDEO)

Counting is a lot of fun if you are under four. Try again in 30 years, it’s not so fun no more!

YouTuber and videomaker AdamBuxton is a bit cynical about the practice of counting. Sure, when you’re young you learn to count using balloons, kitties, dolls, and fun shapes. But once you hit the real world and lose that innocence, you realize that the only thing you’re counting are problems – pennies in your pocket, friends who stabbed you in the back, regrets, missed opportunities, etc.

While we shouldn’t destroy the fun of learning to count for little kids, Adam Buxton thinks it’s time to ‘fess up about what a bore and a struggle it can be later on to keep track of all the crazy, not-so-fun stuff.

So he wrote his own adult counting song!

Directed by freelance animator Cyriak Harris, illustrated by Sarah Brown, and produced by Stuart Earl, the catchy tune starts out as a fun children’s song, but it takes a dark turn somewhere in the middle, sure to entertain those who totally get where Buxton is coming from.
