Israel Kills Hamas Military Leader, YouTube Blocks and Unblocks Footage
On Wednesday, Nov. 14, the Israeli Defense Force targeted and killed Hamas’ top military commander, Ahmed al-Jabari. While Jabari was traveling through the Gaza Strip, the IDF launched an air strike, blew up his car and almost immediately uploaded the footage to their idfnadesk YouTube channel.
They then sent a warning via Twitter: “We recommend that no Hamas operatives, whether low level or senior leaders, show their faces above ground in the days ahead.”
Israel’s attack came as a response to chronic Palestinian rocket fire and, according to The New York Times, marks Israel’s most brutal assault on Gaza in four years.
As All Things Digital reported, YouTube blocked the video, claiming that the content violated YouTube’s terms of service. However, in less than a day, YouTube unblocked the video, with a spokesperson saying that the initial removal was a mistake.
