The University of Pennsylvania Built a Parkour Robot
The University of Pennsylvania YouTube channel uploaded this short video, showcasing the all-terrain RHex (short for “robot hexapod”) from its Kod*lab. Its six springy legs allow the machine to go almost anywhere. They hope to use it in environments that prove challenging for humans to explore, such as collapsed buildings and remote deserts.
The channel writes, “To get the most mobility out of RHex’s simple, one-jointed legs, Penn researchers are essentially teaching the robot Parkour. Taking inspiration from human free-runners, the team is showing the robot how to manipulate its body in creative ways to get around all sorts of obstacles.”
And it’s also good for impressing the Internet!
