Scientology Church SLAMMED by New Lawsuits

The Church of Scientology has always been controversial, even in Hollywood. But on June 18th, an anonymous plaintiff took things a step further than they’ve ever gone with a mountain of legal claims against the mysterious group and its leader, David Miscavige.

Our nameless Jane Doe, believed to be a former Scientologist, is suing Miscavige and the Church for damages ranging from kidnapping and false imprisonment to slander and intentionally inciting emotional distress. Her lawsuit further alleges that “The Church of Scientology presents a facade to the outside world to disguise what, in reality, is nothing more than a cult built on mind control.”

The Church of Scientology, which boasts huge celebrity members including Tom Cruise and John Travolta, denies all allegations of abuse and wrongdoing, and its lawyers claim they are confident that the lawsuit will “fail.”

Disturbing allegations against Scientology are nothing new. In a 2017 HBO documentary about the church, one former member spoke about a “prison camp” where followers were allegedly forced to do hard labor for 30 hours at a time, eat table scraps, and sleep on wet mattresses.

But these new lawsuits might just bring down the whole controversial religion. It has the potential, according to insiders, to spill a lot of details about A-List Scientologists like Cruise, who is reportedly “like brothers” with Miscavige.

“There’s very little he doesn’t know,” one said to Us Weekly. “He and David are like brothers united in their religious devotion. If David is ordering this kind of harassment  on people trying to leave the church, Tom would likely see it.”

It’s well-known that people who get drawn in by the church have a hard time leaving, so much so that there are entire movements devoted to rescuing and rehabilitating former Scientologists. Other activist groups try to spread alleged “hidden truths” about the church, such as this bizarrely Islamophobic letter posted on Tuesday:

Whatever the end result of this new string of accusations, most people still aren’t going to be comfortable with Scientology in the near future.
