Okay, this is kind of brilliant.

It doesn’t really feel like Christmas until you start hearing Mariah Carey’s classic “All I Want For Christmas” in the department stores – but the fun thing about this song, as with many pop songs, is it only takes a slight key change to turn them into something dark and unnerving.

YouTube musician and cover artist Chase Holfelder teamed up with Kurt Hugo Schneider for this project, and the result is like something you’d hear in an edgy trailer for a film about a stalker who tries to kidnap his ex-girlfriend over the holidays.

They didn’t even have to change the lyrics much for that creepy edge, except for this redo of the hook: “None of the lights are shining brightly anywhere / and the sound of children’s crying fills the air…”

Love the song, and kind of want to see the non-existent movie I just made up.
