Aggretsuko is Sanrio's latest character and -- with her love of drinking and karaoke, and hatred of office life, she took off quickly with a more adult fanbase.

  • When you think of Hello Kitty you think of a cute little thing, a silent school child with a sunny attitude, wandering around with a sweet little bow on its head. Less so Aggretsuko, the Sanrio company's new character who comes off a little more relatable than her kitten cousin*. Aggretsuko is a red panda. She works in an office where she hates her coworkers, worries she is mis-spending her 20's, and we know all this because she sings it to the tune of heavy metal as she drinks with the coworkers she likes and ignores the coworkers who annoy her.

It's a surprisingly adult character for Sanrio — and not just adult in the violent sense, but adult in the "would any teen understand the difficulties of office life" sense. Hello Kitty has always had some older fans, and it looks like they're being courted directly. According to this interview on CNN — Aggretsuko was created to be an anti hero everyone can relate to — and I'm sure the stresses of office life are a universal thing

  • Aggretsuko (a combination of Aggressive Retsuko was revealed back in January, but it seems to be she's bubbling to the surface now, and I am so excited. I want an angry little red panda to relate to in my 20's! Who doesn't?

Aggretsuko is now starring in an anime in Japan, and let's hope she comes to the West soon. What do you think of Aggretsuko? Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.

*(So, on the cousins thing, they're not really cousins, but you're going to tell me you don't like the idea of the Hello Kitty characters all knowing each other on a first name basis due to the awkwardness of the occasional family reunion!? Come on!)
