The town of Cormorant, Minnesota has ceremonially elected a dog named Duke to be their mayor.
I’m going to repeat that, because I’m not sure you’ve all grasped the full impact of this news.
The (12!) citizens of the town of Cormorant, Minnesota have taken the time out of their busy lives to hold an election for an honorary mayoral position, and out of the entire town, they have selected this seven-year-old dog to represent them. Politically.
I know, I know, you have so many questions. Here’s the closest we can come to an FAQ:
– Duke’s mayoral salary will be furnished through the generosity of Tuffy’s Pet Food.
– The election was not close. (Duke won by a “landslide.”)
– Yes, this is an actual quote from a guy named David Rick, who lives in Cormorant: “His name came up. In fact, I voted for him.” (It’s not like they set out to elect a dog mayor, you guys. His name just happened to come up.)

Duke officially takes office during “Cormorant Daze” this coming Saturday. (And me without a ticket… It MUST be sold out by this point.)
