Happy National Pizza Day!

According to Twitter, it’s National Pizza Day a.k.a. “that day where everyone happens to eat pizza as well” or “national celebrate a food that everyone loves as if only you love it day.”

Everyone loves pizza. Name one person you know that doesn’t love pizza for reasons other than that they care too much about their health, are lactose-intolerant liars or are human monsters/serial killers.

The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles really brought pizza into the mainstream by making a whole generation of kids think it’s the greatest thing in the world. Later coupled with a Domino’s Pizza sponsorship deal when the movies came out, it continued until everyone celebrated pizza as the end-all-be-all of culinary pleaseure. Which is cool. Because pizza’s amazing.

But beyond that, people have generally taken the fact that they love pizza and made it into an on-running joke of some kind. It’s like the whole bacon craze. Who the hell cares that people like bacon? You don’t. Because you do. Because it’s normal. Things like National Pizza Day are celebrating the normal, and that hardly seems like a reason to have a day surrounding something that everyone does on a daily basis anyway. It’s like having a “National Breating Day” or “National Enjoying Sex Day.” I think we’re all good. We get it.

It’s not like you’re rebelling against the mainstream or raging against any kind of anti-pizza machine. Everyone’s on your side. We can all settle down about this.

Anyway, happy National Pizza Day and I don’t want to be a pizza Scrooge, but I just had to point that out. Tip well and celebrate the day Jillian Michaels dreads every year with some fun Internet pizza things!
