  • Here at What’s Trending, we pride ourselves on being on top of the latest trends, memes and general zeitgeisty happenings. That being said, we’re not above admitting when we’ve missed something. One of the biggest trends among high school students over the last two months has also been, arguably, the best. And we just discovered it this morning.

So, what’s happening here? Let’s analyze. It’s a beat, and the last word of every line is “sausage,” particularly the kind that’s an innuendo for penis. Sounds pretty juvenile, right? And….hopelessly infectious?

The raps mostly seem to involve pointing out something potentially negative about your own body or personality, then following it up with “but I still get the sausage.” It is too fun. It belongs everywhere, not just in high school.

You can basically put any word in there, for whatever you’re into the most. Here’s one some Christian kids did about Jesus:

I’d yell at these kids to turn their phones horizontal, but this is one of the few pieces of content that actually works better this way.

  • And, of course, you can make fictional characters say it and get all goofy:

  • So how did all this begin?

Vice points to two videos, though there’s no confirmation that either of these was definitively the first:

Regardless of how it got started, #SausageMovement has taken on a Harlem Shake-level life of its own. In fact, you’re probably already too late to do one of your own. But, if you do, please please send it to us @WhatsTrending. We will post it here. We will watch it and love it.

Thank you, high schoolers, for still taking time out of your day for unfiltered creativity.
