Elephant seals don’t get enough appreciation, so it’s nice to see this old video getting some love on Reddit today.
Back in 2008, members of the British Antarctic Survey came back to their powerboat and discovered a huge elephant seal had climbed into the boat and was just hanging out. He seemed to have decided the boat was his now, because he looked downright shocked when the men told him to get out.

Finding people’s stuff to nap on seems to be a habit of elephant seals. This baby seal hauled itself out of the water, approached a group of tourists and made itself comfortable on their pile of rucksacks – too bad if they were going to need those later.
It’s like the “if it fits, I sits” philosophy that cats have, only with animals that can weigh up to 4,500 pounds.
