  • If you’ve watched a movie, like, ever, you’ve stumbled across an underwritten female character. And if you’ve been on the internet, like, ever, you’ve probably come across criticism about the “manic pixie dream girl” trope in particular. If you haven’t, a manic pixie dream girl is a romantic “lead” with no real self or purpose other than being quirky so the sensitive manchild lead can find himself or rediscover joy or turn into Zach Braff. Something along those lines.

Underwritten Female Character takes the MPDG, as well as several other similarly underwritten familiar character types, and throws them all together. Literally. Into a van they go. Several of the other characters (still underwritten!) try to help re-educate the manic pixie dream girl and get her to become the Actual Human Being she was always capable of being.

Sure, this video doesn’t point out anything particularly new or provide scathing criticism that could revolutionize crappy tropes, but t’s a fun faux trailer that makes fun of something a lot of people have been exhausted of for years.
