  • Holy cow, it’s a zombie! Harry Caray was the voice of the Cubs in the 20th Century, remembered for his many catchphrases and a spot-on impression by Will Ferrell on SNL. What with the Cubs reaching the World Series for the first time since 1945, he made his comeback — in Ferrell form, as the comedian brought back his legendary impression on Jimmy Kimmel Live this week. (If you want to see another great comedian talking about the Cubs, it’s Bill Murray time.)

Ferrell came out dressed as the Cubs announcer, glasses, stomach, and all. He begins tossing out Wetzel’s Pretzels to the crowd before just throwing the pile on the ground. Caray’s been busy in the afterlife — apparently, “once you get past the armpit hair, [Janis Joplin] is all woman”.

Confused, Caray begins calling play-by-play for a non-existent Cubs game. Leon Durham (who hasn’t been with the Cubs since 1988) plays with Addison Russell (who is on the current Cubs roster).

Caray reminds us that the last time the Cubs won the World Series was in 1908. He then spouts off on numerous false facts, including getting the President’s middle name wrong (Teddy Roosevelt was not a Huxtable), America was not exporting Fruit Roll-Ups, and television wouldn’t be invented for 30+ years.

The bit is pretty solid, and it’s always good to see a favorite childhood memory come back. Now let’s go Cubs! (Editor’s note: Shepard is a White Sox fan and I put this line in to spite him.)
