So Kanye West has this beautiful song (featuring Paul McCartney, who is totally about to get famous off of this collaboration) about his tragically deceased mother speaking to him. In the lyrics, the spirit of his mother lets him know that she knows he's happy and that she wants him to believe it.
This song is a very earnest self-reassurance piece about what, if you believe in any kind of after-life, you would want to hear your mom say about you after she's gone.
Listen to it if you haven't yet.
It's okay, I'm crying too.
Anyway, so there's going to be a video game about this song.
Now watch from 55:57 in this video, where he briefly mentions the idea behind the game.
Here's the quote from the video, in case you forgot your headphones at home today:
Right now I'm working on a video game for Only One, and the idea is that it's my mother going through the gates of heaven and you have to bring her to the highest gates of heaven by holding her to the light.
The interesting part is that you're supposed to hold his mother to the light, which makes it sound like there might be some fun game mechanics that force you to tilt your phone/iPad in certain ways. One can only presume that this will be an app for iPad/iPhone/mobile, and not a full console game, especially with his wife's success with her game app.
So how can this premise translate to a game?
Well, we've already got some main characters. We have a Kanye character, the mom who you are guiding through heaven to get to "higher gates" and maybe even the two angels that god sends Kanye in the song (his daughter and Kim Kardashian).
Who knows, it could be just another Flappy Bird clone, but the idea is something far more personal than people tend to traditionally explore with their game apps. On the other hand, it is Kanye West, so we can probably expect something we really haven't seen before.
But either way, this is very weird/exciting news.
