  • Slow-motion balloons are the next unstoppable meme of the internet, according to the Slo Mo Guys’ Gavin Free.

“I’ve discovered the secret to YouTube, is the internet goes ape for balloons,” he told us at VidCon. “I thought it was kittens, but they love slow motion balloons.”

After the Slo Mo Guys’ first balloon video got more than 95 million views, they decided to keep experimenting with it. Their latest has Gav’s co-star Daniel Gruchy climbing inside a giant water balloon and then filling it until it bursts – and it quickly shot to 13 million views and counting.

  • The videos are successful because slow motion appeals to people’s curiosity. “It’s a way of looking at the exact same stuff you look at, but way slower, which is interesting to everyone,” said Gav. “It’s so easy – you just have some relatable content and then you make it slow, and I’m for some reason fascinated.”
