I'll admit, I'm not entirely sure what Disney has up its sleeve with its latest creation: VertiGo, the wall climbing robot. It looks pretty cool though!
Surprising to some, and less to those who remember Disney's animatronics, the company has been on the forefront of robotics for years now. Their latest creation, VertiGo transitions from the ground to the wall, and it's amazing to watch.
The little bot was a collaborative effort between Disney Research Zurich, and ETH. According to the video description it has "two tiltable propellers that provide thrust onto the wall, and four wheels. One pair of wheels is steerable, and each propeller has two degrees of freedom for adjusting the direction of thrust. By transitioning from the ground to a wall and back again, VertiGo extends the ability of robots to travel through urban and indoor environments."
Who knows what use the world is going to get out of this little guy, but here's hoping we don't have to deal with him during the inevitable robot apocalypse!
