  • In the second story this week about an extremely huggable being named Warren (the first one was a baby rhinoceros), Pro Football Hall of Famer Warren Sapp made headlines when he got bitten on the arm by a nurse shark.

Years ago, I remember seeing an interview with Sapp in which the interviewer asked him if there was anything he couldn’t do. He said, “Give birth.” (I can’t find any mention of this on the internet, so I may be crossing some wires here; that said, it’s a pretty vivid memory.) While that may still be impossible for Sapp, he can now cross an item of the increasingly short list of things he hasn’t done. This time, that item is “survive a shark attack.”

According to TampaBay.com, Sapp was lobstering off the coast of the Florida Keys this past week when he and a nurse shark went after the same lobster. Here’s a picture of the aftermath, from the Instagram of the charter boat’s captain Jack Carlson:

  • Sapp shark 1
  • Carlson told TampaBay.com, “We bandaged it up, put some gauze on there, some black electrical tape and hit a couple more spots, then headed in.”

Sapp didn’t let the attack get him down, though. Within 24 hours, he was selling shirts commemorating the incident on his website. The shirts, available in a wide variety of styles including T-shirts, hoodies, and tank tops for men, women, and kids, are all emblazoned with this design:

  • Sapp shark 2
  • When reached for comment, a representative for Sapp said, “Warren is recovering very well… It’s the shark I am concerned about.”
