  • Let’s say you’re an average Watertown visiting, Gloucester go-getting, Waltham walking, bounding Bostonian, and buddy you are hungry. Your 1998 Jeep Wrangler, with most of the windshield scraped clean of ice, is parked between two places — the McDonalds at the corner of Commonwealth and Harvard and the Dunkin Donuts at the corner of Commonwealth and Harvard. You have to meet your friend Sean at the Coolidge Corner in a half hour and you’ve got to eat quick! Do you get the fries at McDonald’s or the donuts at Dunkin Donuts? Oh buddy, you’re sweating through your Red Sox cap! That big red B is about to be soaked to the bone, kid! Well, what if I told you that in Boston, you don’t have to choose? Because Dunkin Donuts is premiering… donut fries. Exclusively in Boston (for now).

Many, shall we say, wicked fast food chains often try out their new products in one location, and what better place to premiere these sticks of delicious donut dough in Massachusetts — the place where its citizens look up at a national fast-food chain as if it is a local monument of hometown pride. Which, I do too! You won’t see me badmouthing Dunkies! I’m Alex Firer, the Boston Boy, and I love my Dunkies!

The snacks are part of a larger snack test that involves Munchkin Dippers (in case regularly munchkins are a little too dry), Ham & Cheese Roll-ups (haha, gross) and Waffle Breaded Chicken Tenders. Do I think it is pure and unadulterated mad science for a donut chain to jump not just to chicken, but WAFFLE breaded chicken? Absolutely. Do I encourage it, though? Yes, go forth oh donut mavens. Go forth!

There’s also pretzel bites and a gluten-free brownie, but that’s downright normal.

All these snacks are part of a $2 menu Dunkin Donuts is testing in Boston, and I urge you — all of you at Sally O’Brien’s at The Middle East Cafe, at Great Scott in Allston — make the right choice. Don’t go down to Anna’s Taqueria or one of the fine eating establishments down in Davis Square. I urge you — eat at Dunkin’ Donuts, so us Angelinos can walk to the Dunkin Donuts on Hollywood and Vine (or even the one in Atwater Village), and have some delicious $2 Ham & Cheese Roll-Ups there.
