  • Superheroes, and the intricate universes they occupy, inspire a nerdy and meaningful passion that few other works of fiction can create. Most of their adventures stretch back decades, if not close to a century, and they show us what we can be if we lead our lives with the same moral conviction and comprehension.

It’s no surprise then that celebrities have used these names often as monikers for themselves. Elvis famously based his later more glamorous look on DC Comics’ Captain Marvel Jr., and some superhero fans go even further and name their kids after their favorite characters!

Here are three celebs who named their kids after some of their favorite superheroes, and one who changed his own name to reflect a character whom he admires.

  • Pete Wentz Named His Daughter Marvel Jane Wentz

Pete Wentz, bassist for Fall Out Boy (itself a band named after a superhero, albeit one from The Simpsons), announced that he would name his daughter Marvel Jane Wentz, after the hero Captain Marvel, aka Carol Danvers (different from the one from DC Comics, this is Captain Marvel from the Marvel Universe, and who will be played by Brie Larson in an upcoming movie). Said Pete Wentz in an Instagram photo with his newborn daughter: “So excited to introduce Marvel Jane Wentz. Feeling so grateful that she’s here… annnnd she’s already ready to takeover the world.”

  • Kevin Smith Named His Daughter Harley Quinn Smith

Kevin Smith has been a long time comic book fan, making his love of them a key part of his persona and creative output, with writing stints on Batman, Daredevil, Green Arrow, and several of his own projects. His love of the Batman mythos even expanded to his daughter, after he named her after Batman enemy and star in her own right, Harley Quinn. On again/off again beau of The Joker, and one of the biggest draws to the Suicide Squad franchise.

Harley Quinn Smith, now 18, recently did a press tour for her movie with her father, Yoga Hosers, and discussed the hubbub surrounding her name, saying many originally thought it was to reflect her parents’ love of motorcycles. Folks, it was not!

  • Nicolas Cage Named His Son Kal-El

    Kalelcage

Lifelong Superman fan Nicolas Cage is such a fan of Superman that he named his newborn son Kal-El. For those who aren’t the absolute nerdiest of nerds, Kal-El was Superman’s name on his home planet of Krypton, so Nicholas Cage’s son isn’t just named after Superman, he’s essentially named after a trivia fact. Jeez, Cage!

  • And, that’s not the only superhero name Cage put in an important part of his life when he chose Cage as his stage name (from Nic Coppola), named after the now infamous Marvel hero Luke Cage. Nicolas Cage? He just loves the comic books. Oh, baby!

  • What do you think of all these cool celebrities naming their kids after superheroes? And, why is not yet named after Matter-Eater Lad from the Legion of Superhero, or Beast Boy? Beast Boy Wentz! I can see it now!
