  • Behold the Madeleine, what its creators call an “analogue odour camera”

    Based on current perfumery technology, Headspace Capture, The Madeleine works in much the same way as a 35mm camera. Just as the camera records the light information of a visual in order to create a replica The Madeleine records the chemical information of a smell.

    This video shows how the device works: You first surround the object, siphon off its smell, and then mail the capsule to some kind of lab where the smell is then synthesized into some kind of perfume. Or at least we think that’s what’s being depicted in this video.
