What It’s Like to Date Someone with Extreme OCD

  • Neil Hilborn, in this sad and touching poem, describes what it’s like to fall in love with someone while in the grips of a near-paralyzing affliction of OCD. How do you date someone who is so fastidious to the point of insanity about tasks as simple as checking that the door is locked or that the lights are turned off? Who repeats sentences over and over again and can’t even walk on cracks in the floor? Eventually, even the most steadfast lover will begin to waver, become detached, and eventually leave the tongue-tied partner who is helpless to his own undoing.
