  • Cult-status director and writer, Joss Whedon (Buffy The Vampire Slayer, The Avengers, Firefly) needs your help to save the future of cinema.

In this (deliciously sarcastic) video tirade, Whedon urgently invites viewers and fans to join him in boycotting Mike Birbiglia’s upcoming autobiographical film, Sleepwalk With Me, which hits select theaters August 24.

We shouldn’t be watching these little tiny films that people really care about and work for years on. We should be nurturing corporate spectacle like good Americans.

From the producers of the popular radio show “This American Life,” Barbiglia’s new film already screened at SouthBy Southwest and Sundance and is sure to begin stealing viewers from Whedon’s own summer success, The Avengers.

It’s time to take a stand.

To get a grasp on exactly what you’re boycotting, be sure to watch the Sleepwalk With Me official trailer on YouTube and the film’s first, cheeky promotional video below, featuring Birbiglia and “This American Life” personality Ira Glass.
