Are "The Hobbit" and "The Goonies" Really The Same Movie?

  • Self-professed nerd and movie buff Lance Ford mashes up clips from Chris Columbus' 1985 cult hit adventure film, "The Goonies," with the audio from the first trailer for Peter Jackson's upcoming "The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey."

    Suddenly, Mikey becomes Bilbo Baggins and what was simply underground becomes Middle Earth as this band of misfits gather to accomplish something magnificent. Even more suddenly, Cindi Lauper's score is replaced by Howard Shore's musical composition. And for those pop culture buffs, the thrilling connection here is that Sean Astin played both Mikey in "The Goonies" and Samwise Gamgee in the "Lord of The Rings" trilogy.

    Will the adaptation of J.R.R. Tolkien's famous "The Hobbit" novel series actually look like this? You'll have to populate your local movie theater on Dec. 14 to find out.
