  • This April, the Supreme Court will hear oral arguments on the matter of whether states have the right to ban gay marriage.

Last year, the nation’s highest court declined to rule on the issue, but are doing so now due to the disagreements among lower courts about the constitutionality of such bans.

CNN.com has more on the lower court that continues to rule in favor of gay marriage bans:

The Court had before it petitions from four states — Ohio, Tennessee, Kentucky and Michigan – all in the U.S. Sixth Circuit Court of Appeals which recently went against the national trend and upheld gay marriage bans. The court granted petitions for all four states.

Though the Supreme Court will only be discussing the rulings for those four states, a decision to make these bans unconstitutional will essentially make Legal Gay Marriage the law of the land.

The nation’s sensible took quickly to Twitter to express their enthusiasm:

The Supreme Court expects to make its ruling in June of this year.
