  • Gaming YouTuber Sky Williams gave an emotional farewell to Nintendo president Satoru Iwata, who died at age 55 on Sunday.

“I guess I just think Nintendo transcended just monetary value and created something so much greater,” Sky said. “For me, Nintendo created a family. Nintendo created a life that I felt was so much more comfortable to live. A life where there were just no judgments.”

Greg “Sky” Williams is a popular League of Legends gamer on YouTube who makes lighthearted videos about gaming culture. His channel now has 614,761 subscribers.

He told his viewers that people outside the gaming community, particularly parents and adults, often couldn’t understand why video games are so important to him: because it was the one place where his appearance didn’t matter and he felt he belonged.

“Because either you’re too heavy to be attractive, too whitewashed for the black kids, you’re not the right skin color, you’re not smart enough, you’re not funny, you’re too loud, you’re annoying. I was desperately trying to find anywhere to fit, any puzzle piece.”
