The nominations for the 87th Academy Awards were announced this morning and, as usual, there was plenty of controversy.
Birdman and The Grand Budapest Hotel lead the way with nine nominations each, while The Imitation Game received eight, and Boyhood six.
The most notable snubs: Selma received only two nominations, for Best Picture and Best Original Song. Director Ava DuVernay and actor David Oyelowo, recipient of months of praise, were not nominated. Also, The Lego Movie failed to garner a nomination for Best Animated Feature.
Why the snubs? It could be the demographics of Oscar voters, who are 93% white, 76% male, with an average age of 63.
