Mads Mikkelsen has long been known to be cast in Rogue One, the latest Star Wars franchise film. We just never knew what his role would be. Now we do. Turns out he’s Jyn Erso’s (the heroine) father. And also the architect of the Death Star. The dude in charge of the moon sized destructive force. We got more details in the second domestic trailer released last month.
Now, we get to see more, straight from the second international trailer for Rogue One. We get to see Vader again as well, which is great. We learn that Jyn Erso’s parents were taken from her at a very young age. Remind you of anyone? Or really everyone in the Star Wars universe?
So this story becomes about Jyn saving her father. Which was a subplot in the original trilogy. With Rogue One being an indirect prequel to those films, perhaps this similarity is fitting.
