La La Land is in there with fourteen nominations — tied for the most Academy Award nominations alongside the classic All About Eve and Titanic.

  • Fences, Hidden Figures and Moonlight have broken last year’s #OscarsSoWhite trend wherein many African American figures got unfairly shut out of the awards. This extends to the actors’ categories, with Denzel Washington, Viola Davis and Octavia Spencer all nominated for acting awards. As usual, fake movie Hidden Fences is again snubbed, but I suppose that is just the way.

  • Also, Mahershala Ali was nominated for Moonlight, and he’s amazing so I am very excited for that.

  • Also weird and amazing movie The Lobster was nominated for Best Original Screenplay, which is awesome. Oh, the screenplay awards! That’s where things get fun!

  • Pixar was shut out of the animated features category, with Disney bringing in two nominations for Moana and Zootopia, both of which are extremely perfect, so good work Disney.

  • Also. I am sad to say. In the greatest crime against art. Deadpool did not get nominated for best picture. This crime against art and farting ninjas shall not stand! Nay, I say, nay!

You can read the full list of nominees here. The Oscars are airing Sunday, February 26th, with comedian Jimmy Kimmel hosting.
