Look, when we talk about weird casting in weird movies, it's always as a series of oddities. Like, Josh Gad as LaFou in the live action Beauty and the Beast? Sure, why not! Absolutely! And down the pipeline there are some weird ones coming — Tim Burton's Dumbo, the live action Aladdin spin-off Genies and— Jungle Book director Jon Favreau's Lion King movie. Director Jon Favreau just revealed one of the first actors for his film— the voice of Simba will be played by Childish Gambino himself— Donald Glover.
Donald Glover, the writer, turned actor, turned rapper, turned Emmy award winning show runner may just play the main role of Simba— the young lion who runs away from his kingdom following a tragedy only to return to free it from the clutches of the mad despot, Scar.
Young Lando Calrissian, Community and now Simba! How did Donald Glover become such a lovable nerd icon so quickly ON TOP of all of his other stuff!? Is the Orson Welles of Comic-Con? Or just a very great person who happens to be voicing Simba? We'll see in due time! For now, let's just enjoy some weird and enjoyable casting as we go off on our very wonderful weekend!
The updates from Favreau keep on coming. Such as James Earl Jones reprising his role as Mufasa!? We are absolutely in!
