Alphabet Aerobics: The New Baby Got Back?

White people everywhere are rediscovering this 1999 hip-hop classic

This is reporter Kim Powell for NBC 9 News out of West Texas, warming up before a remote live shoot. Nothing out of the ordinary there. Except that she's warming up by reciting, from memory, the lyrics to Blackalicious's classic tongue-twister anthem "Alphabet Aerobics."

She's maybe not perfectly nailing the FLOW that Gift of Gab brings to the iconic track. Or... getting it at all. But she's got those lyrics down COLD, so it can only be a matter of time, am I right?

Ordinarily, a prim and proper white lady news reporter reciting a Blackalicious song would be enough of a story to merit a bit of viral Internet social media attention, and I could now safely send you all on your way. But of course this SAME Blackalicious song was the center of everyone's attention back in October, when The Boy Who Lived performed it on Jimmy Fallon's late night show.

    What's the connection?

Oh, there is no connection? It's just a coincidence. Why you gotta be negative like that, hypothetical person I am conversing with now as a rhetorical flourish because I don't know how else to end this blog post?
