Matt Lauer began his Today Show run in 1997 and he’s still got it.

His contract was supposed to be up in a few months, but NBC just extended for more than two years, the New York Times reported.

Between the decline in ratings and the heat he received during the departure of his former coanchor, Ann Curry, you would think Lauer has had enough. But as we have learned, there is no hurdle he can’t overcome.

“I consider this the best job in broadcasting,” Lauer said in a statement. “I love people I work with every day and I have such respect and gratitude for the people I work for. I couldn’t be happier to be staying.”
