They say the apple doesn't fall far from the tree. Unfortunately, Robert Downey Jr.'s son, Indio, was arrested for cocaine charges, an addiction his father has struggled with for many years.
The 20-year-old was arrested in West Hollywood Sunday afternoon after the police pulled over a car that he was a passenger in and conducted a search. Apparently, the car was pulled over after an Los Angeles Sheriff saw Downey smoking narcotics out of a pipe.
The police found cocaine on Downey and gave him a felony possession charge, according to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department. Downey's $10, 250 bail was paid and he was able to leave the jail around midnight last night.
The "Iron Man" star has released a public statement on his son's arrest and seems hopeful this is an incident that the Downey family can get past together.
"Unfortunately there's a genetic component to addiction and Indio has likely inherited it. There is a lot of family support and understanding, and we’re all determined to rally behind him and help him become the man he's capable of being. We’re grateful to the Sheriff’s department for their intervention, and believe Indio can be another recovery success story instead of a cautionary tale," Downey told US Weekly Magazine.
