Miroslav Klose made history in Germany’s 7-1 destruction of host nation Brazil in Tuesday’s World Cup semifinal. With his rebound goal in the 23rd minute of play, the 36 year-old Lazio striker passed the Brazilian Ronaldo to become the all-time leading scorer in World Cup history with 16 goals.
Klose is Germany’s all-time leading goal-scorer with 71 goals in 136 career appearances and is the only man to play in four World Cup semifinals, having played in every tournament since 2002. He has appeared in 23 total World Cup matches for Germany, second only to Lothar Mattheus, who has 25.
He also extended a notable record of his: Germany has never lost a game in which Klose has scored.
His scoring record alone proves his tremendous value to the German squad. After a long and illustrious career, he will be viewed as a hero by his countrymen, especially if they are to pull through in the final match and bring home the trophy.
