The biggest day of the year in Pasadena, CA, is January 1, the day of the Rose Parade and Rose Bowl college football game. In preparations for that day, a “Dust Devil” struck, causing general havoc in the Fanfest area outside the stadium.

The National Weather Service says the incident was not a tornado, as it didn’t form from part of a larger thunderstorm and wasn’t as strong. What we say to that is “Back off NWS, we’re calling it a tornado, just as we in Los Angeles call a half an inch of drizzle ‘rain’.”

The Los Angeles area has been dealing with high winds all week. Power has been knocked out in several neighborhoods and two men were killed after boats overturned in Avalon Harbor at Catalina Island.

Three people suffered minor injuries during the Pasadena Dust Devil, and fortunately, nobody needed a hospital.
