It’s official - Miss Piggy and Kermit the Frog have broken up after nearly four decades. And if a pig and a frog can’t make their romantic relationship last forever, is there even any hope for the rest of us?
Miss Piggy released the following statement on Twitter today as the Muppets prepare for their new ABC comedy “The Muppets”:
Heartbreaking - but to be fair, we should have seen it coming. In a behind-the-scenes first look at the new show released after Comic-Con on July 21, Kermit was dating another pig named Denise, while Miss Piggy was acting in a movie and making out with Topher Grace.
They seem to be putting aside their differences to work on “The Muppets,” premiering September 22. Miss Piggy and Kermit appeared together at Television Critics Assn. press tour in Beverly Hills today to promote the show, and it sounds like it was pretty awkward. But they insisted they could keep things civil on set. "I have no problem working with my ex," Miss Piggy said.
We can only hope that the series will lead to a reconciliation or at least some kind of closure between the couple.
(God, look at us - the Muppets have everyone in entertainment media basically writing Miss Piggy/Kermit fan fiction.)
