If you haven’t grasped the enormity of the Tianjin explosion in China, this terrifying footage taken from two blocks away should drive the point home.

People in a building near the chemical warehouse that went up in flames on Wednesday night started filming the inferno, just moments before one of several huge explosions sent fireballs and plumes of smoke high over the surrounding buildings. “Holy shit!” the man filming says. “No fucking way!”

“Are we dangerous here?” a woman in the background asks, just before a second, even larger blast flashes so brightly that the phone’s screen blanks out for a second. The next moment, everyone is fleeing down the stairs.

The blasts, one of which was the equivalent of more than 20 tons of TNT exploding, left at least 56 dead, 700 injured and thousands homeless, officials say. About 6,000 people were displaced by the fire and explosions.
