  • Hey you guys, did you get your coupon for a free Chipotle burrito yesterday?

Not if you accidentally texted some random lawyer in Washington D.C., you didn’t.

Yesterday Chipotle was closed nationwide over the lunch hour so that all their employees could discuss health and safety procedures. It was a very necessary move to rehabilitate Chipotle’s damaged reputation after a months-long E. coli scare – but to keep their customers happy, they also offered free burritos to anyone who texted “RAINCHECK” to 888-222 by 6pm last night.

Just one problem – if you accidentally texted 888-2222 instead, you may have reached a very puzzled tech attorney named Hank Levine, who spent the entire day trying to convince people he wasn’t Chipotle:

“It started this morning around 9:00 a.m. when I suddenly got a text that just said, ‘raincheck,”” Levine told Tech Insider. “Curious, I wrote back with a question mark.”

But the conversation didn’t end there.

“The person said, ‘I want my burrito,” Levine explained. “I told them they had the wrong number.”

At this point, the stranger clued Levine in and told him Chipotle was giving out a number very similar to his. Since then, Levine has received over 60 (and counting) text messages from people looking for a free lunch.

This is hands-down our favorite part of this story:

  • Free burrito bitch small
  • We’d probably be less amused if we didn’t have our burrito coupons coming, though.
