Is AXE Stealing Shower Thoughts from Reddit?

Or do great minds think alike?

  • Reddit user, Sleepy_time_wit_taco posted the latest AXE commercial stating AXE had stolen nearly word-for-word a "shower thought," but is it really theft?

The long short of it is, no, and even Reddit agrees on that. Several users posted their thoughts on whether or not "shower thoughts" could even be considered copywritten and if there would even be any legal ramifications.

According to Reddit's user agreement, Reddit "By submitting user content to reddit, you grant us a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive, unrestricted, worldwide license to reproduce, prepare derivative works, distribute copies, perform, or publicly display your user content in any medium and for any purpose, including commercial purposes, and to authorize others to do so."

Which is likely the case here, and if not, it might be the case when Nick Offerman offered "his" shower thoughts to the world.

While the post's complaints are moot, it did open up an interesting conversation about Reddit's attitude towards copyright infringement.
