  • In an assembly that was a surprise to Vice President Joseph Biden, President Barack Obama awarded the man with the Presidential Medal of Freedom. The assembly was a complete surprise to the vice president who was invited to privately say goodbye to the president and walked out to a cheering audience. Their beautiful friendship and progressive partnership was fully on display.

Obama called president Biden a “brother” and said “To know Joe Biden, is to know love without pretense, service without self-regard, and to live life fully”.

The medal was given with special veneration — only previously reserved for Ronald Reagan, Pope John Paul II and Colin Powell. At first Biden turned his back to hide his tears, but near the end they were out in the open. It was a beautiful moment for the friendship and relationship between the outgoing Vice President and President of the United States.
