Imagine if you will — a world where we were living through the longest episode of The Twilight Zone, the classic horror and science fiction anthology from the mid century which specialized in terrifying "what if" scenarios — like what if the world died in a nuclear blitz, or what if everyone had a pig face and the beautiful were considered ugly. Each one, a metaphor for our daily life, and many have admitted this Trump situation feels a little bit like a terrifying episode of this anthology — as if it takes place in an alternate dimension.
A Scottish newspaper went a step further, listing the TV airing of the inauguration as an episode of the famed television show, calling it "one of the most ambitious, expensive and controversial productions in broadcast history.", and implying it is a virtual reality project that went on Twitter, TV and the press to build a bleak alternate presidency. The article ends with "It's a flawed piece, but a disturbing glimpse of the horrors we could stumble into if we're not careful." which is very funny, because boy oh boy, we were not careful.
So what will sci-fi writers dream up now? Tales of four years of peace and prosperity? Yeesh!
