  • You would thing life would have a few constants. The sky is blue, the grass is green, Rainbow Connection makes you cry, and Twitter has a healthy and short 140 characters available to each and every user, in some sort of fair and terse socialist reality. Well my friends, be prepared to have your reality turned completely upside down, ya dumb dogs — because Twitter is experimenting — with plans to roll out 280 character limits on Twitter! They’ve started with a few folks here and there — influencers, companies, sports teams, and other people apparently much, much more deserving than you. Jack Dorsey’s — Twitter’s founder — Tweeted out the announcement with a lengthy Tweet — one that was immediately copy edited to be shorter, which Dorsey seemed to appreciate. Check out some of the chaos this longer Tweet length is bringing onto the universe at large.

  • Meanwhile Twitter co-founder Biz Stone expanded on Jack Dorsey’s initial explanation, going a little bit into the history of the — apparently arbitrary — 140 character limit — and how the language limitations of other countries in part helped inspire this decision that they have made. Plus, Twitter users from Japan are reporting that they’ve always had more than 140 characters, and it has not hurt Japanese Twitter at all.

  • What do you think of 240 character Twitter? Let us know in the comments or on… ugh, what was the name of that website again? Oh yeah, Twitter at @WhatsTrending… and please… keep it short, okay?
