  • A man dressed as Mr. Monopoly, aka, Rich Uncle Pennybags, aka the Monopoly Man showed up at an Equifax hearing earlier today, and who could blame the cute little Monopoly board game mascot. He sensed corruption and he came running! After all, when it comes to Equifax, the Monopoly man, that symbol of a cartoon rich person who doesn’t care, is here to pay attention.

Earlier this year, Equifax, a credit reporting agency, announced that it had a massive data breach. To make matters worse, Equifax opened up a protection service which turned out to be worded in such a way to get those who sign up for it to avoid a class action lawsuit. What is worse, Equifax knew for months of the breach and before they told anyone anything, three Equifax execs sold their share of the stock and recently the IRS has rewarded them 7.25 million so they can protect the information they have. So folks. It’s a monopoly— it’s an ugly monopoly from which there seems to be little escape and even gross negligence putting us all in danger can’t hurt them. So the Monopoly Man being here is… very appropriate. People on Twitter sent out gifs of this cruel portent of the economy, Mr. Monopoly—including of him wiping his brow with a dollar bill! Nice.
