  • In an era where you’re fighting against someone who thinks a Nazi rally has two sides, allies can be found in unlikely places. Although George W. Bush is very much a precedent for Donald Trump — his work getting us into two needless wars based on purposeful misinformation (or, as we call them, “lies”) and his fans’ silencing of critics who spoke against his administration has a direct line to Donald Trump. However, George. W. Bush was also someone who days after September 11th denounced Islamophobia and recruited a diverse array of talent into key positions in his administration. Many of his fans are today fans of Donald Trump, so it means something when George W. Bush gave a speech denouncing Trumpism, the white supremacy he promoted, and the misinformation he spreads. Here Bush has come out against Donald Trump.

In the speech, Bush said, as a clear side swipe on Trump —

”Bigotry seems emboldened. Our politics seems more vulnerable to conspiracy theories and outright fabrication.”

What effect George W. Bush’s speech will have is yet to be seen. In the meanwhile, people are surprised to find articulation coming from someone not particularly famous for it, and hoping the words can make a difference to those who listen to the hard line neocon Republican base.
