  • Terrible and tragic news for anyone who believes in the freedom of speech today as the FCC has rolled back Obama era net neutrality provisions. The net neutrality provisions — which you can read about here, made it illegal for corporations to control what kind of content is seen on their service. Unfortunately, the FCC has repealed those protections. It’s unknown how exactly these new ruling will impact American life. While the corporations claim, for the most part, there will be no change done to the Internet, why pass the law in the first place? One thing we can probably look forward to is companies having to charge more for every different facet of the Internet.

  • Some state legislators are saying that they plan to find a way to bring net neutrality to individual states — such as California’s Senator Scott Wiener. The law is sure to be an easy pass with entertainment and web companies which make their home here. It’s also bad for everyone else though. I mean, I like sending large files to other cities. I like companies not having control over everything. Ugh. We’ll see how this shakes out. In any case, this is a big win for corporations controlling everything, and a big loss for people who like… using the Internet.

Should we even get into the insufferable video the head of the FCC made? He basically told everyone concerned about the massive corporate take over of the Internet that we still get to Harlem Shake or whatever. There’s no point. Who cares? He took away net neutrality and then completely mocked what the Internet stands for. His name is Ajit Pai and he’s insufferable.

The issue is not yet over, as it heads to courts and Congress. We hope for the best.

This stinks, but what do you think? Yeah, I’m asking what you think. I care! Let us know in the comments or on Twitter at @WhatsTrending.
