  • Funny stuff happens every week, as Jon Stewart has proved (and made it look easy) for the past 15 years. There wasn’t much funny about this week, though, when the cop who killed Eric Garner was not indicted by a grand jury in New York City.

On Wednesday night’s show, Stewart said he didn’t have anything funny to say about the decision, just that he needed “more time,” in reference to the old saying, “Comedy = Tragedy + Time.”

In the ensuing 24 hours, he found much more to lampoon, in the form of ridiculous statements from Rep. Peter King, former NYC mayor Rudy Giuliani, and Sen. Rand Paul.

It’s good to laugh again, but important to remember that this is some truly tragic shit we’re living through, and many in our society still don’t seem to recognize it.
