  • At this year's MIP Digital Fronts in Cannes, France, What's Trending's Shira Lazar sat down with Veritasium's Derek Muller. The science vlogger was on hand to promote a new documentary for PBS about radioactivity. The conversation also turned to the always-important subject of how to not sound stupid on the Internet.

  • "I find something I want to create," Muller said on his video-making process. "And I just try to explain it like you or anyone would understand."

On creating videos, Muller encourages content creators to "present [the story] in a way that you would want to watch it." The Veritasium host makes a point of offering an awesome fact in the first five seconds of his videos.

Muller takes to heart a quote from physicist Richard Feynman. "The first principle is that you must not fool yourself. And you are the easiest person to fool."

As the head of a YouTube science channel with over two million subscribers, Muller feels it is his job to keep people from fooling themselves, or be fooled by others.

But the benefit of so many new voices is that Veritasium is allowed to exist at all.

  • "I couldn't imagine a world where the find of video creation I wanted to do was possible." Muller said. "The career that I've wanted has become a possibility in the last ten years."
