On June 10th, R. Kelly's youngest child Jaya, 13, publicly came out as transgender on his personal Instagram account. At the time, he hadn't yet told his father.
BET has the background on that story...
The teenager explained though his famous father was unaware of his transformation, other members of his family have served as pillars of support during his coming out stage.
“[My mom] was very proud of me, I was like, ‘Thank you mum for accepting the fact that I’m a transgender,” he said. “And same with my sister, she told me that she was proud of me, and respects me by calling me handsome and calling me her little brother now, and I love her for that, so you know it was great for me.”
In a recent interview with Chicago’s WCGI, R. Kelly has acknowledged his son's news, but bristled strongly, suggesting, "it was never true."

“As far as that’s concerned, always believe what you see—with your own eyes that is. That’s the best way to go about this business. I’ve heard a lot of things about a lot of people and it was never true,” Kelly told WCGI’s, The Morning Riot.
R. Kelly’s hometown radio station, Chicago’s WCGI, began by asking him to address his silence on the issue: “There [are] reports of your daughter becoming your son. Would you like to address that because a lot of blogs are saying you are not addressing it.“
“You don’t really wanna open it up by saying my daughter is becoming my son,” R. Kelly responded. “Don’t even give the blogs that kind of credit. You know what I’m saying? Real talk.“
