Britney Spears - Alien (Real Unedited Vocals)
Oops, she’s done it again.
Fans of the pop princess, Britney Spears, were in for an unpleasant surprise when the unedited version of her song Alien was leaked on July 2. Without auto-tune, the song sounds very… well, alien-like. It certainly does not sound like the sassy songstress on the radio.
"I'd like to affirm that ANY singer when first at the mic at the start of a long session can make a multitude of vocalisations in order to get warmed up," track producer William Orbit said, according to the Huffington Post. "Warming up is essential if you’re a pro, as it is with a runner doing stretches, and it takes a while to do properly. I’ve heard all manner of sounds emitted during warm-ups. The point is that it is not supposed to be shared with millions of listeners. A generous singer will put something down the mic to help the engineer get their systems warmed up and at the right level, maybe whilst having a cup of herb tea and checking through lyrics before the session really kicks off. It’s not expected to be a ‘take.'"
Still, some fans are unconvinced that the leaked song was merely a “warm up.”
“Were you as shocked as we were while experiencing the track without auto-tune?! WHO IS THIS PERSON AND WHAT HAS SHE DONE WITH OUR POP PRINCESS?” celebrity critic Perez Hilton raved on his website. “It's no secret Brit-Brit loves to alter her vocals for super sonic sound impact — but this recorded version of the jam is almost unrecognizable to our ears”
Is it a warm up? Or was it, unfortunately, the real thing? In a day and age where auto-tune has become the norm, is it really as shocking as people make it out to be? We may never know.
