The following is an excerpt from ‘The Imitation Game’ Trailer Offers A Look At Benedict Cumberbatch’s 2014 Oscar Bid

Oscar, meet Benedict Cumberbatch; Benedict Cumberbatch, meet Oscar. In “The Imitation Game,” the “Sherlock” actor stars as Alan Turing, the brilliant mathematician and computer scientist responsible for cracking the code that helped the Allied forces topple Nazi Germany in World War II.

The first trailer is now online, and it has “awards season” written all over it, even before considering the fact that it’s a Weinstein Company film acquired from a Black List script for a record $7 million. Co-starring Keira Knightley and Matthew Goode, “The Imitation Game” opens Nov. 21.

Telling the story of one of Britain’s unsung heroes, The Imitation Game will question how and why the man who contributed so greatly to his country’s war effort could end up vilified and hounded by its government. As the maths genius-turned-codebreaker, Cumberbatch will find solace and companionship in Keira Knightley’s fellow decrypter Joan Clarke and rub up against a coterie of apparatchiks and powerbrokers, including Charles Dance’s Commander Denniston and Mark Strong’s legendary MI6/SIS head Stewart Menzies.
