    The following is an excerpt from Lady Gaga And Tony Bennett Announce Their Jazz Album

    Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett want to sing their latest news from the mountaintops. But since they were in New York City, they had to make do with the top of 30 Rockefeller Center. The pair announced their jazz album atop the GE Building on the “Today” show on Tuesday morning (July 29).

    The album, dubbed Cheek to Cheek is out September 23, and Mother Monster, in slicked back, dark hair and dramatic retro makeup, said the album was organic.

    “The collaboration has been so wonderful. It’s so natural singing with Tony,” Gaga said. “I just learn so much from him every day. I’m so happy.”

    Bennett, 87, couldn’t help but agree.

    They may look like an unlikely duo – the decade's most provocative pop star next to an 87-year-old jazz crooner – but Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett had an instant connection when they met three years ago.

    "We were fast friends – friends ever since [our first meeting]," Gaga, 28, told PEOPLE Monday at the taping of their PBS jazz special, Tony Bennett & Lady Gaga: Cheek to Cheek LIVE!, in New York City.
